An SEO audit is a check-up for a website. You look for the things that stop search engines from finding, reading or trusting your pages, then you fix them in the order that pays off most. Most sites do not need a giant report. They need a short list they can actually finish.

Here is the routine we would follow for a small business site or a client's blog.

Start with a crawl

You cannot fix what you have not seen. A crawler visits your pages the way Google does and records what it finds: status codes, titles, links, load times. For a site with a few hundred pages, a standard crawl is plenty. Very large sites can start with one section, such as the blog or a product category.

In DataFlowSEO, Site Audit lets you enter a domain or just a section, choose a size from a quick check up to 10,000 pages, and see the price before it starts.

Fix what blocks pages from showing up

Look at these first, because nothing else matters if the page cannot be found.

  • Pages that return errors, such as 404 or 500
  • Pages blocked by robots.txt or marked noindex by mistake
  • Redirect chains, where one redirect leads to another
  • Broken internal links

A page that Google cannot reach cannot rank, however good it is. Clear these across the whole site before you touch anything else.

Check the basics on every important page

Open your five or ten most valuable pages and look for the simple things. Is there one title, written for a person, and not too long? Does the page have a single clear H1? Is there a meta description that would make someone click? Are images compressed and given alt text?

These sound dull. They are also where small sites lose the most, because nobody checks them once the site is live.

Look for duplicates and thin pages

Two pages that say almost the same thing compete with each other. Pages with a few lines of text rarely rank for anything. A crawl flags duplicate titles and descriptions and pages with very little content, so you can merge, rewrite or remove them.

Mind speed and mobile

Most visitors in India arrive on a phone, often on a mobile connection. Slow pages lose people before they read a word. Check load time on the pages that bring you traffic, and fix the heaviest images first.

Rank the problems, then fix a few

An audit tool will give you a long list. Do not try to finish it. Work through Critical issues first, then Warnings. Notices are polish, and they can wait.

Confirm each fix

After you change something, check the page again. A single-page re-check is quicker than another full crawl. When you have fixed a batch, run the audit again and compare the new crawl with the old one. The score should move, and if it did not, you want to know why.

How often should you audit?

Once a quarter suits most small sites. Run one after a redesign, a platform move or a big batch of new pages. If you want it automatic, you can schedule a weekly or monthly re-crawl in DataFlowSEO. Schedules stay off until you turn them on, and you set a spending limit for each run.
