Google Business Profile Checklist for Indian Businesses

A step-by-step checklist to set up and improve a Google Business Profile for a shop, clinic or service business in India, plus how to check your Maps rank.

When someone nearby searches "dentist near me" or "mobile repair in Pune", Google shows a map with a few businesses. Those listings come from Google Business Profiles. If yours is missing or half filled in, you are invisible at the moment a customer is ready to call.

Work through this list once, then recheck it every few months.

Claim and verify

  • Search for your business on Google Maps. If a listing exists, claim it. If not, create one.
  • Complete verification. Until you do, you cannot manage the profile properly.

Get the basics right

  • Name. Use your real business name, as it appears on your signboard. Adding extra keywords to the name breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
  • Address and area served. Be exact. If you visit customers instead of seeing them in a shop, set a service area.
  • Phone number. Use a number that is answered during opening hours.
  • Hours. Keep them accurate, including festival days and holiday changes.
  • Category. Choose the main category carefully, since it shapes the searches you appear for. Add secondary categories that truly apply.

Add content that shows what you do

  • Upload clear, recent photos: the front of the shop, inside, the team, your work.
  • List your services or products, with short plain descriptions.
  • Add a short business description that says what you do and where.
  • Post an update when you have an offer or an event.

Keep your name, address and phone the same everywhere

Directories such as JustDial, Sulekha and IndiaMART can also list your business. If the details differ between them and your Google profile, search engines trust all of them a little less. Check each listing you control and make them match.

Ask for reviews, and reply to them

Reviews influence both rankings and trust. Ask happy customers to leave one, using the review link Google gives you. Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and specific way. A steady trickle of reviews looks healthier than a burst followed by silence.

Check where you actually rank

Your listing can rank first next door and nowhere three kilometres away. A geo-grid shows this as a map of spots around your location. In Local SEO you can audit the profile, see your Maps ranking for a search term, run a geo-grid and read what your reviews say.
