SEO for D2C and Small Businesses in India

Where a small team should start with SEO: product keywords, local search, reviews and brand mentions, plus a short weekly routine you can keep up.

If you run marketing for a D2C brand or a small business, SEO is probably one job among ten. You do not need a big programme. You need to know where you show up, what rivals do better, and what to fix first.

Here is a plan that fits into a couple of hours a week.

Start with the searches your customers use

A shopper looking for a gift does not type your brand name. They type what they want: "cotton kurta for men", "organic hair oil", "best air fryer under budget". Run those through keyword research with India as the country, and look at volume, difficulty and intent. Product and category pages should target buying searches. Blog posts can target the questions that come before a purchase.

Check where you rank, and where rivals do

Add your main keywords to rank tracking and include up to three competitors in the same check. Then open the competitors tool to see the keywords they win that you do not. That list is your content plan for the next quarter.

If you have a physical shop or serve a city

Local search deserves its own attention. Keep your Google Business Profile complete, ask for reviews, and check your Maps ranking from different spots with a geo-grid. Our Google Business Profile checklist covers setup, and the local SEO tool shows where you appear around you.

Watch what people say about you

A single viral complaint can undo a month of work. Brand monitoring follows your brand name across the web, shows mentions by month and sentiment, and lets you compare with up to three rivals. Sentiment is estimated automatically, so read the mentions themselves before you react.

A weekly routine that fits

  • Monday: check tracked keywords and note big moves
  • Mid-week: write or update one page from the content plan
  • Friday: review new brand mentions and answer any reviews

Every month, run a site audit and fix the Critical issues first. Our step-by-step audit guide shows how.

Keep costs predictable

You see the price of a lookup before you run it. Saved results reopen free, and credit never expires, so a month where you only update old pages costs almost nothing. If you turn on a schedule, set a spending limit so a run that would cost more is skipped.
