Content briefs

See what the pages that rank for a keyword cover, then write yours and score it against them.

5 min read

A content brief tells you what a page needs to cover to compete for a keyword. It reads the pages that rank today and turns what they have in common into a plan you can write from, and lets you score your own draft against it.

Make a brief

  1. Open Content Briefs

Choose it under Optimize in the left sidebar.

  2. Enter a keyword

A phrase, not a sentence, such as how to do a site audit.

  3. Pick a country and language

The pages that rank differ by market. It defaults to United States and English.

  4. Make the brief

The button shows the usual price first. A keyword you already researched opens at once, for free. Up to ten of the top pages are read.

Read the brief

TabWhat you will find
OverviewThe search intent, a suggested length, the sections the top pages share, the subjects to cover, the questions people ask and related searches with their monthly volume.
TermsThe subjects and phrases used by several of the ranking pages, with how many pages use each.
Ranking pagesThe pages that rank, in order, with their site, title, length and headings, so you can read exactly what you are up against.
DraftA place to write your page and score it.

Score your draft

Write or paste your page in the Draft tab and you get a score out of 100, built from six parts: Length, Topics covered, Headings, Questions answered, Keyword use and Readability. It lists what is missing and what to do next, so each rewrite has a clear target. Drafts are saved with the brief and scoring is free, so you can score as often as you like.

What it costs

Making a new brief is one paid lookup. Opening a saved brief, writing drafts and scoring them are free, and nothing is charged if a request fails.

Use it from an AI assistant

Your connected AI assistant can list and read your briefs and make new ones. Paste a draft into the conversation and it can score it against a brief and explain what to improve, for example *"Score this draft against my site audit brief."*.
