Connect your AI assistant

Add DataFlowSEO to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor over MCP and ask about your research in plain language.

5 min read

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools. Connect DataFlowSEO once and you can ask questions such as "which keywords should I target next?" and get answers from your own saved research.

Before you start

  • You have a DataFlowSEO account and at least one project.
  • You use an AI client that supports custom connectors over MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
  • For new research (not just reading saved results), your balance is above $0.

Connect in four steps

  1. Copy your server address

    In DataFlowSEO, open MCP settings in the sidebar. Copy the Remote server URL from the top of the page.

  2. Add a custom connector in your AI client

    Name it DataFlowSEO, choose the type Streamable HTTP (not STDIO) and paste the URL. The Setup guides tab in MCP settings has step-by-step instructions for ChatGPT and Claude, with links to their own help pages.

  3. Sign in

    Your assistant opens a DataFlowSEO sign-in. Sign in once with your usual email code or Google.

  4. Choose what it can access

    On the Connect screen, tick the projects the assistant may use and click Connect.

Illustration with sample data

Your server address looks like this:

Remote server URL
https://app.dataflowseo.com/mcp

Clients that use a JSON config file, such as Cursor or Claude Desktop, can use this entry:

mcp config
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dataflowseo": {
      "type": "streamable-http",
      "url": "https://app.dataflowseo.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

What to ask

  • "Which keywords should I target next for my blog?"
  • "Compare my backlinks with example.com. Where are the gaps?"
  • "What backlinks did we lose since the last analysis, and which are worth winning back?"
  • "Which of my backlinks look risky? Build a disavow file I can review."
  • "What are the biggest issues in my latest site audit, and what changed since the last crawl?"
  • "Run a fresh audit of example.com/blog, and stop it if it is still running in ten minutes."
  • "Which queries rank between positions 5 and 20 in Search Console?"
  • "Run keyword research for 'email marketing' in the United States."
  • "Which of my tracked keywords dropped this week? Check them again."
  • "Who are my main competitors, and which keywords do they rank for that I do not?"
  • "Make a content brief for 'how to do a site audit' and score this draft against it."
  • "How does my Google Business Profile score, and where do I rank around my shop?"
  • "What is the web saying about my brand compared with my rivals?"

What your assistant can and cannot do

It canIt cannot
Read the saved research in the projects you chose, for free.See your account settings, billing details or other people's data.
Run new keyword, domain, competitor, backlink, rank, site audit, content brief, local SEO, brand monitoring and AI visibility research. Your balance is checked before each paid lookup and the credit is used as usual.Use a project you did not tick on the Connect screen.
Read your saved competitor analyses, tracked keyword positions and history, content briefs, local business checks and brand reports, for free, and score a draft you give it against a brief.Change anything in your Google account.
Set up tracking: start tracking keywords for a site, follow a business and follow a brand. These are free, and the checks and reports that follow use credit like any other lookup.Turn on scheduled rank checks, or change your account settings.
Compare backlink versions, read the risk of your links, build a disavow file to review, reopen saved link gap runs, and set up or stop scheduled backlink monitoring (it asks you to confirm, because monitoring spends credit each time).Change anything in your Google account.
Manage site audits: start or re-run one, resume or stop a running crawl, run Lighthouse on pages, re-check a page, and remove an audit. It stops or removes things only when you ask.Change anything in your Google account.
Manage your workspace: add a project, remove a project or a saved domain or backlink analysis, make a site audit repeat every week or month, see what is running and stop it. It removes or schedules things only when you ask, and confirms first because schedules spend credit each time.Buy credit or change your account settings.
Read your linked Search Console and GA4 data, free.Change anything in your Google account.

Manage connections

Open MCP settings → Connections to see every connected assistant with its connection date and when it was last used. For each one you can change which projects it may access (Save permissions) or Revoke it. If you have several, Revoke all disconnects them in one go. Each assistant has its own access, so revoking one does not affect the others. Resetting or deleting your account disconnects every assistant at once.
